Today I will be talking about interactive art. I will discuss what it is, why it's interesting, and provide some examples. As always if you have any comments or questions feel free to leave them below.
What is it?
The simplest explanation of interactive art is that it is any type of artwork that interacts and/or immerses the viewer in the piece itself. For example, last July my parents and I went to an immersive Van Gogh exhibit. The first part consisted of walking through a room giving a play by play of Van Gogh's life. Taking the time to explain his full life story and even incorporated quotes from letters he and his brother Theo sent to each. It also gave a clear look into his deteriorating mental health. The second room projected Van Gogh's art onto every surface possible. It was like jumping into his artwork and was even more interesting than the first part. I especially loved the part when the paintings moved like the blinking portraits and the flowers spreading between transitions. It's an experience I will probably remember the rest of my life. I would definitely recommend anyone interested to go experience it for themselves. The photos my Mom and I took were stunning but it is nothing compared to seeing the exhibit in person.
What makes it interesting
In my opinion, interactive art is a fascinating form of creative expression because you are brought into the art and made to be a part of it. Additionally there is something special to being fully immersed in an experience that is completely unique to that moment in time. It gives meaning by making the viewer feel something.
